Dawn Baum
Staff Attorney

Dawn Sturdevant Baum is an enrolled member of the Mole Lake (Sokaogon) Chippewa Tribe of Wisconsin and a descendant of the Menominee Tribe. Dawn joined NARF’s Washington, D.C., office in November 2006.

Dawn earned a B.A. in Religious Studies from Beloit College and her J.D. from the University of Wisconsin. In 2005, she completed an L.L.M. in American Indian and Indigenous Law from the University of Tulsa.

Prior to coming to NARF, Dawn’s Indian law experience included a summer clerkship with the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin law office, a permanent clerkship with the Navajo Nation Supreme Court and clinical instructor position for the University of Tulsa’s Boesche Legal Clinic. She is admitted to practice law in Wisconsin, New Mexico, the District of Columbia, Muscogee (Creek) Nation tribal courts, and the Navajo Nation tribal courts (inactive).

Dawn volunteers to share her time and native experiences with visitors to the Smithsonian’s newest museum—the National Museum of the American Indian. She also serves on the Board of the Native American Bar Association of D.C.
