National Indian Law Library

Projects Completed:

Web Site Enhancements: The Library, which co-manages web site maintenance with IT and Development, created several new web site tools this year.

First, the NARF home page now features a 3-tabbed area in the center. Previously, only a welcome message/mission statement took up this area. Now, the welcome message/mission statement appears first, but people can click on two additional tabs to bring other information to the forefront. Currently we feature news/events and publications. This tool creates additional space on the home page to feature information.

We created a podcast page at http://www.narf.org/events/podcasts.htm to provide audio files of interviews with NARF Attorneys. Attorneys are contacted frequently by Development to report upcoming interviews. The Library then adds the podcast to the NARF site.

For those who use RSS feeds to organize information coming from blogs, we created a simple shortcut for people to add the NARF and NILL news blogs to their preferred RSS Reader. See http://www.narf.org/events/news.htm for example, and scroll to the bottom of the page.

These tools combined have created a more exciting multi-media web site for NARF visitors.

Projects in Progress:

U.S. Legislation Indian Law Bulletin: The library is developing a new Indian Law Bulletin to include U.S. legislation. This bulletin will highlight and provide information about current legislation before Congress. This will be an important addition to the case law, news, law review, and U.S. regulatory bulletins already being published and is expected to help NILL in its future fundraising efforts. The new bulletin is expected to be published by December 2008.

Research Catalog Updates: This quarter we added records for all radio programs (since 2001) on Native America Calling that have featured NARF attorneys. NAC's web site provides program archives back this far. For students or others who would generally not be granted an interview with an attorney, this resource presents another way for people to hear NARF attorneys speak on particular Indian law issues. The Library has been working with Development to advertise other podcasts of NARF Attorneys, and these are linked at http://www.narf.org/events/podcasts.htm(as mentioned above).
